The Great Outdoors designed and installed the landscaping on our property about 8 years ago and has been our go-to company for everything outside ever since. Jim Schmidt, the owner has great sensitivity to the local conditions and knows what will flourish and what won't. Our garden has grown more lovely every year with TGO's care and we recently asked them to come back to create a new picnic area on a formerly undeveloped part of our property. Now we are anxiously awaiting the transformation from overgrown wildland to a grove of maples, chokecherries and willows

We contracted with Jim to build a retaining wall - about 40' long, and - the backbreaking part - back-filling behind the wall. The wall was in a tight spot and uphill from the driveway. All the fill material had to be wheelbarrowed uphill behind the wall.

Jim and 2 hard working employees came in and did the whole thing in a day and a half. They really busted their humps and did a great job. The price was very competitive and they were all pleasant and easy to work with.

I had a vision and Jim made it happen. We're glad we found him.

We've worked with Jim for the last 20 yrs or so. Last year we had a lawn that was full of aspens growing up out of the middle of the lawn, and dandelions everywhere. We were ready for a revamp and called GOL. The crews were respectful and showed up on time. Honestly, it is difficult to find good help in the local area, and too often crews show up and most of them are just standing around.... not with GOL- Jim's guys were working non-stop and they did a great job. And best of all, the price was awesome. Best value in Truckee.
